Do It For Dave Eckhart
Shermalot would like to lovingly commemorate our long time member and friend Dave Eckhart. Dave served many roles within the
Shermalot Water Ski Club including president, board member, equipment manager, Camelot Frolic organizer, and dock and lifts manager. Dave always gave 100% to the team from taking care of the equipment trailer to the enthusiasm of doing barefoot circle. He was part of several World Records for barefoot waterskiing and was a critical member of a national show ski championship highest scoring barefoot act. In central Wisconsin, many people recognize Dave from his time as your friendly neighborhood mailman and hard working and kind neighbor. In daily conversations, Dave shared his positive experiences about the team in an effort to build membership. In essence, he was a dedicated member of our team and loved everything about Shermalot - the family atmosphere, the boats, the equipment trailer, barefoot circle, and trios - which is really saying something (not many guys enjoy trios.)
In 2019, Dave was diagnosed with ALS. Many of us know someone with ALS and we have all become witness to the havoc that this terrible disease can wreak on the body. Dave became bound to a wheelchair (a pretty cool wheelchair, mind you) but his mind was strong and he continued fighting every single day. He made a point to attend team and family events. In 2021, Shermalot dedicated their season and seasons following to Dave saying, “Do it for Dave.” Dave was not in this fight alone. We are so lucky that he was a part of our team and our family.
The pictures below are from our Circlefoot Memorial act; a recognition of Dave and the act he loved most.
